Go Karts

Go Karts For Fun And Sport

Racing with go karts, or karting as it’s also known, is a type of motor sport which uses small vehicles, with four wheels, with an open design. These sporting vehicles are usually used on circuits that are smaller than the regular racing track, and in many cases, this sport is used as a stepping stone for getting to the next level, which would be regular motor sports.

There are many different models of go karts and they can vary wildly in speed, from the slowest, which reach around 24 kph (15 mph), to the super go karts, which reach 260 kph (160 mph). An example I can give you, of a go kart, is the KF1 model, which comes with a 2 stroke engine of 125 cc, and a total weight of 150 kg (which includes the driver of the go kart). The maximum speed of this model is around 137 kph (85 mph). Reaching 100 km/h takes only around 3 seconds, if you use a shifter kart with six gears and loads of power.

The founder of karting is considered to be Art Ingels, Art also became well known as a hot rodder and builder of race cars. The first go kart was built in 1956, in Southern California. Currently, Europe is one of the places where karting enjoys the most popularity.

Go Kart Manufacturing was the first company to produce go karts in the United States. The first go kart engines were produced in 1959 by the McCulloch company. That particular engine was a 2 stroke design, adapted from one of their chainsaws. Later, they stated using motorcycle engines for use with go karts and eventually dedicated engines were built for the vehicles.

Go karts can be used both for racing and for just plain fun. In many amusement parks they can be rented, so anyone can enjoy the thrill of go karting. They are used both in outdoor and indoor tracks and typically rented for periods of time between 10 and 15 minutes.

If you enjoy cars and other types of vehicles you are likely to also enjoy the world of go karts and the fun that goes along with riding free with the wind in your face and the roar of the engine.
